overflow전에 참가하는 8명의 작가들은 작은 물줄기의 흐름이 있는 장소를 찾았고, 그 물줄기가 내려오는 방향을 바라보면서 횡(橫)으로 선다. 흐르는 물줄기를 시대의 흐름이라 가정 해 본다. 흐름을 가로막고 선 작가들의 뒤쪽으로 각자가 다르게 바라보는 또다시 나눠진 범람들의 형성이 있다. 큰 물줄기의 칼라(Blue)와 확연히 다른 개개인으로부터 나타나는 작은 물줄기, 즉 개인적인 특성의 칼라들과의 융합에서 overflow전의 작업은 시작된다. 전시를 통해 우리는, 매순간 인지하지 못한 채 흘려버릴 법한, 혹은 순간 인지하더라도 큰 흐름(flow)에 의해 쉽게 희석되어버려 농도를 잃기 쉬운 여러 경우의 가능성을 잃지 않으려 노력한다. 다수에 의해 획일화 되고 급하게 형성된 아이콘들은 개개인의 정체성들을 망각시킨다. 간혹 자유롭고 독특해 보이기도 하지만, 이는 단지 타인의 이상주의적 특수성에 부응하는 것에 불과하다. 시대의 흐름에 편승 한다는 것은, 줏대 없는 전진 보다는 잠시 멈춰선 후 시대의 흐름과 자아의 진솔한 고찰에 의한 새로운 범람을 꾀하는 것이 보다 바람직한 의미가 되지 않을까 생각해 본다.

Eight artists of Art34, who participated in the 'overflow' exhibition, discovered a place where a narrow and shallow stream flows. They stand across the stream, against the flow. They assume the flow of the stream metaphorically represents the current of time. As the artists stand in the flowing water, they see the changing overflow of water forming behind and these overflows takes in different forms and shapes. The water is blended colors between the main flow of blue and other colors that represent each artist's individuality. Therefore, project overflow is the resulted combination of the individual colors and character of each artists. ● Through this exhibition, we try not to lose the potentialities of several moments that we may fail to recognize, or even if recognized may lose its value due to dilution of the flow (current time). Icons standardized by many and formed urgently, make individual identities sink into oblivion. Occasionally the icons look free and unique but they are mere fulfilling others' particular idealistic character. We think of meeting the contemporary needs as not proceeding without definite views, but aiming at the new overflow through serious considerations of the flow of time and that of our own selves. ■ 김인근
