꿈꾸는 도시 Dreaming City

현대인에게 있어서 도시는 또 하나의 자연이다. 그것은 전원의 낭만을 노래하고 목가적 서정을 이야기하던 지난날의 자연이 아니라 땀과 눈물, 한숨과 탄식, 그리고 기다림 가득한 희망과 욕망으로 넘쳐나는 야망으로 이루어진 치열한 삶의 현장이다. 달을 보며 휴식하는 것이 아니라 붉고 푸른빛으로 반짝이는 현란한 네온 속에서 피곤한 일상을 가로 뉘며 안식을 찾는다.

도시생활에 길들여진 현대인들은 아무리 걸어 다녀 보아도 흙을 밟을 수 없는 거리 속에 묻혀있다. 삭막하고 계산적인 인간관계, 그리고 닭장 같은 아파트와 반복되는 도시의 일상에 숨막혀하면서도 쉽게 현대인, 그리고 그들의 삶의 터전인 도시 그 안에서 숨 쉬는 도시인은 고향을 떠나 궁극적으로 도시에 삶의 터전을 다진 이들이다. 인공의 '도시'는 무엇보다 일터로서, 또한 안락과 평온을 주는 쉼터·고향인 것이다. 그래서 도시는 욕망과 시선, 어둠이 교차하는 공간이기도 하기도 하지만, 우리의 일상이 젖어있는 터전이다.

이번 전시인 『꿈꾸는 도시』展에서는 이러한 도시를 배경하는데, 평소 좋아 하는 것이나 하고 싶은 일들을 도시의 일상이란 공간속에서 조금씩 표현되고 있다. 나는 도시라는 공간에 직접 적으로 인간을 출현시키거나 새나, 고양이, 개와 같은 동물이나 스피커, 에드벌룬, 비행기, 텐트와 같은 사물을 통해 메시지를 전달하기도 한다. 이렇게 나의 그림은 삭막하고 힘든 도시에서 살아가는 나 자신의 꿈과 희망을 담아내고 있다. 그리고 관객들이 내 작품을 보면서 잠시나마 힘든 일상의 짐에서 벗어나 행복한 생각을 했으면 하는 바람으로 오늘도 붓을 든다. ■ 김성훈

For modern people, a city is another nature. It is not the previous nature of which romantic suburb we sang, and of which idyllic lyric we talked, but the heavily competitive living spot which consists of sweat and tears, deep sigh and lamentation, and hope with weary wait and ambition full of desires. People are not taking a rest looking at the moon, but seeking after the rest laying down the exhausted everyday life under dizzying neon lights ● The modern people who accustom themselves to the city life, are surrounded with the streets that they can not step on soil while walking all day long. The modern people who are breathing in the city which is their living spot, are the persons who had left their hometown and eventually laid down the living foundation in the city, although they feel suffocated with soulless and calculative relationship, apartments like chicken cages, and repetitive daily city life. First of all, the artificial 'City' is the hometown as a working place, and a shelter to provide comfort and peace. Therefore, the city is the space where desire, glances, and darkness cross each other, but the ground which is saturated with our daily life. ● In this exhibition, Dreaming City, such a city is its background, and what people usually like and want to do are illustrated in the space of the daily city life. ● I am also delivering a message making the direct appearance of human being in the space of the city, or through such animals as bird, cat, dog, or the objects like speaker, ad-balloon, airplane, and tent. Like this, my paintings contain my own dreams and hopes as I am living in a desolate and difficult city. Today, I am also drawing wishing that my audience relieve from the burden of difficult daily life and have a happy though even for a while as they enjoy my paintings. ■ KIMSUNGHUN
