신인류, Out of Drawing

기계와 인간, 동물과 식물 등 자연과학 및 공학은 나의 주된 관심사였다, 로봇이나 컴퓨터, 자동차, 비행기 등의 기계와 인간은 서로 다르지만, 그들을 구성하는 각각의 구성 요소는 비슷하다는 생각을 해 본다. 예를 들어서 인간의 심장은 기계의 엔진과 같고, 음식은 연료, 뇌 는 컴퓨터와 같다고 볼 수 있다. 그리고 지구상의 모든 물질은 끝없이 진화를 한다. 먼 미래에는 인간과 동, 식물 등 생물도 기계를 구성하는 금속, 엔진, 모터 등의 무생물과 유전자를 소통하며 얽혀 진화해 나갈 수도 있지 않을까? 생물과 무생물의 경계를 허물고 서로 유전자를 나누며, 아주 복잡 미묘한 진화을 할 것이라 생각한다. 기계의 몸과 인간의 뇌를 가진 종족, 또는 인간과 동물, 기계의 교배종, 동-식물과 기계의 교배종 등 여러 모습의 진화를 상상해본다. 자연 및 기계까지도 융합하고 통합해 새로 태어난 인류를 "신인류" 라는 이름으로 부르며 아무도 예상치 못한 모습으로 긍정적인 진화를 거듭 시켜 볼 것이다. ■ 김진우

Engineering and natural science were always one of my greatest interests. l was always more curious about the parts of machines and the structure of the human body, animals and plants than I was in other things. I thought machines, like robots, computers, cars and planes were different from human beings but, if you see their structural elements, they are quite similar. For instance, a human heart is like the engine of a car, food is like fuel and the brain is like a computer. Everything on earth evolves. So if you believe that, then isn't it possible to imagine that in a far-distant future the genes of living beings—people, animals and plants—will become tangled up with non-living metals and engines and servomotors and evolve into a completely new creation? I believe that in the future, the boundary between living beings and non-living objects will disintegrate and the genes of living beings and the new energy of non-living objects will be shared. I would like to name this new species as "New Human Beings" and dream of a more positive evolution some day in our future. ■ Kim, Jinwoo
