바쁘고 삭막한 도시, 허름한 뒷골목에도 작은 생명들은 도처에 있다. 방문했던 장소, 마주쳤던 동물, 사물들의 사진에 나만의 필터를 적용하여 그들을 드러내고 더욱 주목한다. 작품 속의 동물, 사물, 과거의 유적 등은 지구상이라는 공동의 시공간에 존재하며 각각 영혼을 가지고 있는 애니미즘적인 시각으로 표현되었다. 자주 등장하는 토끼, 닭, 개는 직접 키우거나 예전에 키웠던 동물들로 인간이 만든 세상에서 약자로 살아가는 이들을 대변하며 세상에서는 약자이지만 나의 작품에서는 주인공이 된다.
평범한 풍경은 이들의 등장으로 낯설면서도 영혼이 가득한 초월적인 풍경으로 변한다. 디지털 페인팅과 편집으로 실현된 몽환적인 초현실은 출력 후 작가의 붓질이 더해져 단 하나의 작품으로 만들어진다. 사진을 활용하여 리얼리티에 초현실적인 요소가 덧입혀진 작품은 일상적 경험 세계를 초탈한 생경한 느낌으로 사진과 회화의 요소를 모두 포함한다. 이렇게 일상의 풍경에 상상이 입혀진 나의 기억들은 캔버스 위에 귀하게 저장된다.
대도시의 허름한 구도심의 소시민으로 회색 시멘트 빛 풍경을 보며 일상에 찌들었던 학창시절부터 미술은 현실을 벗어날 수 있는 출구이고 동경의 대상이었다. 팍팍한 일상을 견디는 소시민에게 디지털로 떠나는 환상여행으로 놀이와 상상을 제공하며 동물과 환경보호, 약자에 대한 배려 등 다른 세상을 꿈꿀 수 있도록 하고 싶다. ■ 예미킴
Even in busy and bleak cities and shabby backstreets, there always are small lives. I reveal places I have visited, animals and objects I have encountered applying my own filters to pay more attention to them. The animals, objects, and relics of the past exist in a common space and time on Earth and are expressed in an animistic perspective, each with a soul. Rabbits, chickens, and dogs, which appear frequently in my work, are animals that I raise or raised in the past, and they represent the underdogs in a human-made world. ● As they appear, the ordinary landscape transforms into a transcendental landscape unfamiliar yet full of soul. The dreamy surreal fulfilled by digital painting and editing is made into an original work added with the artist's brushstrokes after printing. The work, in which the surreal element is added to reality through photography editing, contains both the elements of photography and painting and gives a transcendental sense from the world of everyday experience. Now, my memories which were added imaginary on the reality of photos are stored preciously on the canvas. ● Art has been an object of longing and an exit from reality since school days, when I was fed up with everyday life looking at the gray cement landscape as a lower middle class of the shabby old town of a large city. Through my digital fantady travel, I want ordinary citizens who are enduring the harsh daily life, to enjoy artistic imagination and dream of a different world protecting animals and the environment, and caring for the underprivileged. ■ YEMIKIM
