2022한강조각프로젝트의 주제는 낙락유람(樂樂遊覽)이다. "조각 작품을 관람하면서 즐겁게 강변을 거닐다"는 메시지를 담은 이 주제는 '강변유람(江邊遊覽) -> 수변유람(水邊遊覽) -> 풍류유람(風流遊覽) -> 낙락유람'이라는 의미 도출 과정을 거쳤다. 기획자들은 작년의 프레 프로젝트 주제였던 '흥(興)을 잇는 '행(行)'의 개념을 올해 프로젝트에서는 '유람'으로 제시하여 행사의 성공과 '흥행(興行)'을 도모한다는 의미를 담고자 했다. 아울러 이 주제는 시민들이 분주한 도시의 일상으로부터 잠시 벗어나 여유롭고, 서정적인 예술 사색의 시간을 가질 수 있기를 기대하는 바람도 담았다. 코로나19로 일상의 변화와 어려움을 겪고 있는 시민들이 강변을 거닐면서 야외 조각 작품을 여유롭고도 즐거운 마음으로 감상할 수 있기를 기대한다.

야외 조각 전시는 뚝섬한강공원에서 펼쳐진다. 기획자들은 '낙락유람'이라는 주제와 부합하게 각 섹션을 '낙락유람1', '낙락유람2/실내전', '낙락유람3' '낙락유람4'으로 명명했다. 기존 전시의 기획으로는 '뚝섬-여의도-반포-뚝섬'으로 순환하는 서클을 그리는 순차적인 동선을 구성했지만, 폭우로 인한 한강의 범람으로 뚝섬한강공원으로 일원화 했으며, 관람자들이 자율적인 선택에 의해서 어떠한 순서로도 관람을 이어가도 무방하도록 열린 구성을 함께 도모했다.

올해 프로젝트는 국내외에서 왕성한 활동을 펼치고 있는 한국 조각가 302인을 초대했다. 원로, 중진, 신진을 두루 아우르는 참여 작가들은 세 곳의 장소에 분산되어 주제에 부합하는 긍정적이고 행복한 메시지를 담은 대형 조각품들을 선보인다. 관객들은 각 전시 장소에서 인물, 동식물 혹은 사물을 친근하게 형상화한 구상 조각뿐 아니라 행복한 긍정 메시지를 가득 담은 다양한 추상 조각을 만나게 될 것이다.

특히, 관객은 3곳의 한강공원에 마련한 야외 조각전 뿐만 아니라 뚝섬한강공원에 대형 텐트로 마련한 실내 전시를 올해 처음 만날 수 있다. 전시 기간 중 주말마다 펼쳐지는 '낙락음악회'도 주요한 관람 포인트가 될 것이다. 관람객은 카탈로그, 리플렛 그리고 무료 통화 시스템을 통해서 작품 해설을 읽고 들을 수도 있다. 홈페이지에서는 실제 관람하는 것 같은 실감형 '온라인 전시'도 만날 수 있다. 또한 홈페이지에서는 관람자의 자율 참여로 이루어지는 'SNS 업로드 링크 공모 시상'과 '관람자가 뽑은 인기상' 코너도 주목할 만하다.

'지붕 없는 초대형 조각전'을 표방하는 한강조각프로젝트는, 올해 행사를 필두로 향후 3년간 매번 다른 주제를 내세우며 지속될 예정이다. 이 행사는 시민들에게 예술 향유의 기회를 선사하고, 미술인들에게는 한국 조각(K-Sculpture)의 세계 진출을 견인하는 한국의 대표적인 조각프로젝트로 자리매김할 예정이다. 특히 올해 행사는, 세계적 아트페어인 영국 프리즈(Frieze)와 공동으로 개최하는 2022키아프(KIAF ART SEOUL 2022) 기간과 맞물려 진행되어 국내외 미술인들에게 한국 조각을 널리 알리는 계기가 될 것이다. 많은 분의 응원을 바란다. ■ 김성호

한국 조각의 열린 비전 보여줄 '한강변 실내전시장' 출현 ● 한강은 세계의 다른 강과 비교해도 폭이 매우 넓은 편이다. 특히 '도심의 한가운데를 통과하여 흐르는 강'으로 따지면, 한강은 최상위권에 속한다. 한강의 이름 역시 본래 우리말의 '큰 물줄기'라는 의미의 '한가람'에서 유래되었다. 크고 넓으며 길다는 뜻의 '한'자를 붙여 '크고 넓어서 물이 가득하게 흘러가는 강'이란 뜻이 완성되는 셈이다. 마침 한강변을 따라 다양한 성격의 둔치까지 발달해 있으니, 시민의 넉넉한 여가생활 향유에도 안성맞춤이다. 이러한 한강변에 아주 특별한 문화행사장이 마련됐다. 바로 뚝섬한강공원에 마련된 『2022 한강조각프로젝트』 특별전의 실내전시장이다.

『2022 한강조각프로젝트』는 한국 조각계를 대표하는 조각가 302명의 대형 작품이 한강 뚝섬한강공원에서 선보이는 초대형 야외조각전 프로젝트이다. 전시 면적만 수십만 평이 넘어 국제적으로도 그 유래를 찾아보기 힘들다. 올해의 성공적인 개최를 위해 지난해에도 『한강'흥'프로젝트』라는 제목으로 같은 방식의 예행연습을 가졌다. 큰 무리수라는 우려 섞인 말도 들었지만, 막상 단조롭던 한강변 공원들에 예술가들의 개성 넘치는 대형 조각 작품들이 들어섰을 땐 큰 환대를 받았다. 연장전에 순회전까지 이어지며 야외 조각전의 진가가 발휘되었다. 올해는 서울시와 한강사업본부의 적극적인 지지와 성원도 함께 했다.

뚝섬한강공원 음악분수 광장에 마련된 실내전시장용 텐트는 길이 50미터, 폭 25미터의 대형 텐트형식으로 마련됐다. 마치 아트바젤홍콩 시즌에 맞춰 홍콩 부두가 하버사이드에 설치됐던 '아트센트럴'을 연상시키듯, 한강을 찾은 수많은 방문객이 『2022 한강조각프로젝트』의 초대작가 302인의 특별 소품들을 만나게 될 아주 흥미로운 실내전시장이다. 실내전시에 출품된 작품들은 주로 1미터 이내의 소품들이며, 작가별 평균 2~3점의 다양한 작품들을 한 자리에 모았다. 조각가의 감성으로 선보일 수 있는 거의 모든 형식의 작품들을 망라했다고 해도 과언이 아닐 정도로 볼거리가 풍성하다.

이번 실내전시장은 『2022 한강조각프로젝트』의 축소판으로 낙람유람 A존, B존, C존 순서로 전시 부스를 배열했다. 작품의 개성에 맞는 좌대에 세워 놓았거나, 탁자 위의 소품들이 조화롭게 어우러지고, 부조작품들은 벽면을 장식한다. 만약 야외전시를 먼저 본 관람객은 실내전시장에서 다시 한 번 더 각각의 공원별 초대작가들의 다양한 감성에 긴 감흥의 여운을 갖게 될 것이다. 비록 크기들은 작지만, 그 안에는 작가관을 가늠할 만한 모뉴멘트(monument)적 특성과 요소를 풍부하게 품고 있기 때문이다. 반대로 실내전시장을 먼저 방문한 이들이 야외에서 위용을 자랑하는 대형작품 앞에 섰을 땐 그 작가의 잠재적 역량을 만끽하는 희열을 경험하게 될 것이다.

Hangang Sculpture Project 2022 opens its exhibition to showcase about 1,000 art pieces, including 300 pieces for the outdoor exhibition and 800 pieces for the indoor exhibition. 302 Korean sculptors are participating in the show, and their artworks are exhibited at the Ttukseom Hangang Park, the Yeouido Hangang Park, and the Banpo Hangang Park. ● The theme of the project is Enjoyable Tour, and it delivers a message of "Taking an enjoyable walk while appreciating sculptures," which is drawn by the process of "Along the Riverside Tour ->Edge of the Water Tour ->Appreciation for Art Tour ->Enjoyable Tour." The directors wanted to inherit the theme of Hangang Sculpture Project 2021 "Heung (excitement)" by adding "Hang (towards something)" to the theme for 2022, wishing the event to become a great success. Additionally, we wanted the citizens to break out of their daily routine and take a relaxing sentimental contemplation while appreciating the artworks. We hope it will provide an opportunity for visitors suffering from COVID-19 to take a relaxing moment and enjoy the tour while appreciating the art pieces. ● The outdoor exhibition will be held at the Ttukseom Hangang Park. The whole project is held under the theme of "Enjoyable Tour," therefore, the directors named each section of the exhibition Enjoyable Tour 1, Enjoyable Tour 2, Enjoyable Tour 3, and Enjoyable Tour 4. Initially, the directors created a linear exhibition flow in a circle from Ttukseom to Yeouido, Banpo, and back to Ttukseom. However, due to the river overflow caused by the recent heavy rains, the art pieces will be exhibited only at the Ttukseom Hangang Park. The design of the exhibition also allows visitors to enjoy the work in any order they like. ● The project for this year invited 302 Korean sculptors to join the exhibition. Participating artists include senior, notable, and rising artists, and their artworks are divided and exhibited in three different locations. Large-scale sculptures and free-form sculptures feature various kinds of subjects, including human figures, animals, plants, and general objects, in friendly figurations to deliver positive, delighted messages. ● Furthermore, visitors can enjoy the outdoor exhibitions in three locations and the indoor displays in large-scale tents installed for the first time this year. Also, to interest the visitors, Enjoyable Concert is being held on weekends during the exhibition period. Free phone audio description service, catalog, and brochure are provided for the visitors. They can also take an online virtual exhibition tour on the website. On the website, the public can participate in Best Social Media Post Contest and vote for the Popularity Award. ● Adopting the slogan of "Gigantic Sculpture Gallery without a Roof", Hangang Sculpture Project 2022 will be held for the next three years to promote K-Sculpture. It will provide an opportunity for the visitors to enjoy the culture and establish itself as the most prominent sculpture exhibition in South Korea that will support the global expansion of K-Sculpture. Especially in order to promote Korean sculpture to international and domestic artists, this year's show is held in time for KIAF Art Seoul 2022, which is co-hosted by the UK's Frieze Art Fair, one of the three most prominent art fairs in the world. 'Han Riverside Indoor Exhibition Hall' Brings a New Open Vision to Korean Sculpture ● The Han River is relatively wide compared to other significant rivers worldwide. It's probably the widest among the rivers that run through the heart of cities. The name of the river originated from the native Korean "Hangaram" and it means "great stream." The meaning of the native Korean "han" is "large," "wide," and "long." Therefore, the definition of "Hangang" is "A river that is large and wide with a vast amount of flowing water." There are many riverbanks with different characteristics along the river for the public to enjoy leisure. This year, an extraordinary cultural event is held by the river. It is 『Hangang Sculpture Project 2022』 indoor exhibition at the Ttukseom Hangang Park. ● 『Hangang Sculpture Project 2022』 is a gigantic outdoor sculpture exhibition held at the Ttukseom Hangang Park that features art pieces of about 302 prominent sculptors that represent South Korea. It is an unprecedented large-scape exhibition that covers hundreds of thousands pyeong. Hangang Sculpture Project 2021_Heung (excitement) was held last year as a rehearsal for the success of this year's project. There were voices of concern regarding the grand scale. However, the public welcomed the large-scale sculptures exhibited by the riverside parks. The success led to an extension of the exhibition and touring exhibition. The exhibition is also held with the full support of Seoul City and Han River Business Headquarters. ● The giant tent indoor exhibition hall next to the Music Fountain Waterfront Plaza at the Ttukseom Han River Park is 50 meters long and 25 meters wide. It reminds me of "Art Central" installed at the harbor-side in Hong Kong in time of Art Basel Hong Kong. The indoor exhibition hall is a microcosm of 『Hangang Sculpture Project 2022』. The art pieces are arranged in chronological order, starting with The Ttukseom Hangang Park followed by the Banpo Hangang Park, and the Yeouido Hangang Park. The pieces are either on pedestals, displayed with harmonizing props or installed on the wall. Visitors who watched the outdoor exhibition first will enjoy the lingering imagery of the inspiring art pieces at the indoor exhibition hall. Even though they are small-sized sculptures, the art pieces portray the artists' monumental traits in their work. Visitors who visit the indoor exhibition hall first will be excited to see the potential ability of the artists when they stand in front of their large-scale sculptures at the outdoor exhibition hall. ● Art content plays an essential part in our modern lives.
